Tips for staying healthy this Summer

Stay happy and healthy this summer, with some handy tips and hints from Health and Wellbeing Brands.

With summer in full swing, it’s tempting to spend all day out in the sun ‘catching the rays’, and overindulging at BBQs, or drinking too much alcohol or eating too many sugary treats like ice creams to stay cool. Drink plenty of water.

Hydration is key, and we should be drinking 6 to 8 glasses of fluid per day. Water is the obvious healthy and cheap choice, quenching your thirst without any additives or sugar.

Avoid the sun during the hottest part of the day.

Avoid the sun or seek shade when the sun is at its hottest from 11am – 3pm. Don’t forget to wear a hat to avoid sun stroke and wear a sun cream with a minimum SPF 15.

Exercise.

Exercising regularly not only helps to keep our bodies fit and healthy but our minds too, it helps to lift our mood, and boost self-esteem. Try a new exercise class this summer, learn your yoga from your pilates, or simply get out in the fresh air for a long walk, or run.

Get some sleep.

We all know how groggy we feel when we don’t get a good night sleep. Most people need about 8 hours sleep per night to function properly. Regular poor sleep puts you at risk of serious medical conditions, including obesity, heart disease and diabetes – and it shortens your life expectancy too. So wind down, turn those devices off, and get some shut eye, as a good night’s sleep can boost your health as well as your mood.

Eat healthy.

In order to feel at your best, it’s important to have a healthy, balanced diet to maintain good health. Avoid processed foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Are you getting your 5 a day – do you eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables? Eat plenty of protein which is essential for the body to grow and repair itself.
